One of my favorite things about pottery is when I find a piece or someone brings a peice to me and I get to do a deep dive to try and find out who made it. Its a lovely way to research and find the entirely different world that another potter has been practicing in, sometimes for decades and sometimes from centuries ago.
Signing work has always been a bit hard for me. My actual name is pretty long and I don't particularly like the look of my initials so putting them on the bottom of my pots has never been my preferred look.
So I decided to take the 'traditional route' and go with a makers mark instead. You can normally find it below the hand on my mugs or on the foot of my pots.

This sign has been used all over the world for 1000s of years along with its brothers and sisters: Air, water and fire. All of which may I point out are all important for ceramics and this art. The Earth element is often seen as a symbol of stability, grounding, and security. It represents the physical world and is associated with growth, abundance, and fertility. The Earth element is also seen as a symbol of nurturing, nourishment, and protection.
It is so obvious why I use this symbol that it really doesn't need explanation. So when you see this symbol, look for me!
